This page is named in honor of my mother, Dottie. When I was a child, she spent her summers canning vegetables, fruits, jellies and, of course, pickles. I remember many hot August days in a house with no air-conditioning. The fans, turned on high, were no match for the heat from the stove top burners simmering large kettles of cucumbers. The occasional bee came in when the screen door was opened, attracted by the sweet smell of the syrups being made. We six kids were drafted into service often. If we weren't snapping green beans, hulling lima beans or shucking corn, we were stirring cucumbers in their pickling baths or washing jars for canning. It was these memories that prompted me to create the Pickle Patch. |

In the Pickle Patch, you will find recipes for cucumber pickles, non-cucumber pickles, spreads and relishes. My mother usually made 4 - 5 of these recipes each summer. Enjoy! |
